#OneonOne ft. Jael Joseph

I’m so pleased with all the positive feedback from my last post and I’m excited to feature my next lovely woman of Dominica Jael Joseph..take a read below..

You are considered a self made woman by many…what would you say has been the main contributor to your independent nature?

I didn’t realize that I had a title lol but I would say that my parents instilled this in me. My father for one always preached, “You have to be able to row your own boat” this speaks for itself and my mum always told us, her 3 girls, that women should never be dependent on men.

Looking back can you say that you have always been as confident as you are right now?

I was always a very confident woman growing up. Even when people tried to ridicule me, I was always head strong. I grew more confident with time and experiences.

How do you personally balance all your projects?

Balance? Ha.. I was told once to never bite off more than I can chew. I don’t believe in that saying. I rather choke on greatness than nibble on mediocrity. I prioritize whatever I do and if it means staying up till 3am, I am so game.

In your work there will always be critiques and haters…how do you handle it?

#dasheenleafmovement. Positive criticism is there to allow growth, Haters who usually spew negativity I actually don’t mind. If you love me I’m always in your heart, if you hate me, I am always on your mind. Either way I have your attention. I just let the crap slide right off.

What has it been like incorporating your son into your business?

Amazing! My son is a mini version of me. From personality to his mouth lol. I was recording once in studio and he was there adding his two cents so I decided to get him involved. He constantly edits my scripts to suit him. I guess apple trees don’t make limes.

Let’s talk about your hair…from dying it to bleaching it you’re so carefree about it which is rare..When did you decide to begin being so creative with it?

After my son was born, I didn’t want to spend so much time on my appearance but I always wanted to look current and modern. Once I cut off my hair, the first step, I could do anything with it in terms of color. My sisters and I love colors, we are definitely not scared to experiment. I think I bleach too often, but who is counting really!

You are a very open person… facebook live instagram all that…since there are some dangers and concerns to this do you ever worry that you are putting too much of your life out there?

I don’t put out my personal life on social media, I really just take the controversial parts and throw it out there. I have a very interesting life and ¾ of it is not on social media. My old blog would have gotten you falling over your face really. I love making people laugh whether the joke is on me or on someone else.

I have come across many “crazies” aka stalkers. It’s actually sometimes scary. But most of them which I have learnt are either infatuated by my voice or my personality. I am not at all worried.

Can you give three facts about yourself that people would be surprised to know?

Surprised to know? I’m an open book – No surprises here!!  My beliefs and my values are very apparent to every and anyone. If I didn’t say it to you I did not say it and what you see is what you are going to get. Plain, simple with all that sass!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Sailing on the ocean.  For real! No Joke.

As someone who has been considered a barrier breaker in the world of women in media what is your advice for young women interested in the field?

Be original – be yourself, set trends – don’t follow too much, Aspire to Inspire. Being number 2 will keep you working hard to be number 1. You can either want to be Lioness or a cub. You choose!

Shels I have always been proud of you. I watch you grow in different fields for the passed years and I believe as an aspiring young woman you can set a good trend for the youth. You’re indeed “selfmade”. Some might view this as showoff; boldface etc. I see it as greatness, the cloud being the limit and a woman who knows what she’s after.
Keep soaring and don’t allow anyone to clip your wings; cut them yourself when you’re ready to retire. #dasheenleaf#

I enjoy reading all of the blogs you’ve posted thus far. Every young lady you have interviewed has a very unique lifestyle. I believe that’s what makes them who they’re truly are. Some people may have different perceptions of them, it could be good or bad, whatever the case is. But I honestly feel that they are all inspiring women just as you Kerdisha.
