The month of September marks the beginning of the final quarter of the year; the start of Autumn (in the Northern Hemisphere) the continuance of the Hurricane season (In the Caribbean) as well as the beginning of the new school term, so its safe to say September can be marked as not only a new month but a season for new opportunities.
Of course, one can not move forward without taking a look back. This month has been one of growth for me both personally as well as professionally.
When it comes to my personal life I can say that I do believe that I have grown when it comes to my mentality and work ethic. From the beginning of 2017 I have been trying to adopt a mentality of Self-Reliance and Self-Approval as well as a better sense of time management and productivity.
Yes I know its a large pill to swallow, but I know that it is very important to develop good work habits as well as a positive way of thinking.
While I know that I have not been perfect in keeping on task 100% I do see the changes reflected in my productivity level. Its my main objective to continue on this productive train.
On to my Monthly Favorites
First up we have two lip purchases that I made recently. Upon a recent visit to the new and improved Jollys Pharmacy Cosmetics counter I stumbled upon these La colors Jellie lip glosses which cost under $10 and purchased venom and sassy respectively.
These do not have the pigment of a lipstick of course (its a gloss) but they have great buildability as well as make great lip toppers. At 5.6grams these are not what I would consider full sized items but they can last quite some time. The consistency of the product is very rich and smooth and it does not leave a sticky residue unlike other glosses.
Next up is this amazing beauty sponge that I purchased from BeautyWise Dominica. A huge shout-out to Clarissa who works at BeautyWise who put me on to this sponge. Not only is it super soft and allows me to blend to perfection it has an amazing angled end which lets you get into those hard to reach corners as well.
My last three makeup faves that I have been enjoying include the NYX matte setting spray, the Ruby Kisses C&C concealer as well as the NYX angel veil primer.
Beginning with the NYX setting spray which claims ‘This long lasting formula grants a matte finish. Spray away and manage your makeup to last all day and night’. At 2.03 fluid ounces this spray does last you quite some time. It has a great consistency (not being to sticky or heavy) and a light smell. It does eliminate the dark circles which usually appears under my eyes when I used my usual Sascha setting spray and although I didn’t notice an extended life period of my makeup it was significantly more matte throughout the day.
Up next is the Ruby Kisses Conceal and Correct Concealer. At 0.32 oz this is very similar to my favorite La Girl concealer which I talk about a lot here. Another shout-out to Clarissa from Beauty Wise (I love when employees can assist me) who put me on to this concealer. The color that I bought is medium beige and what I use to highlight. This is a very blendable product and melts into the skin very well.
Finally is the highly acclaimed NYX Angel Viel Primer. Now if you know nothing about this primer let me let you know right now. IT IS THE BUSINESS!!! When I first purchased this (and I bit my lip to do so) I knew it would be amazing as some of my favorite black youtubers (Jakie Aina and Destiny Godly) both raved about this product.
At 1.02 ounces this claims ‘NYX Professional Makeup’s Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer has a super silky, light and fresh formula that creates a comfortable cushion on your skin to enhance makeup application. The incredible formula creates a smooth, uniform canvas that minimizes shine and makes application flawless. Your skin will feel like it has been touched by an angel.’
Of course this is a huge claim and while I don’t think it lives up to all the claims this does do a great job in blurring pores as well as reducing shine. This formula is one that feels great on the skin as well as smells very light.
On to skincare I have been super into body oils. My shift from creams and lotions to body oils is mainly because oils are anhydrous and do not require preservatives. This means that the product is more concentrated and not diluted with water, which is the first ingredient in many body lotions.
But one of the best reasons to use body oils is that they can be a concentrated way to deliver phytonutrients, antioxidants and nourishing omega fatty acids that protect skin from damage, boost collagen and elasticity and seal in moisture. With Palmers, for example, the rich, luxurious texture slowly absorbs, leaving skin feeling smooth and smelling great for hours.
Whether you’re giving yourself a post-shower rubdown, or you’re the lucky recipient of a full body massage, the oil-as-moisturizer trend is a little luxury with long-lasting results. When applied to damp skin after a shower, the oil emulsifies, each drop spreading easier going further than a traditional lotion. (I just love watching my skin soak up a beautiful oil as I glide it onto my legs and massage it in, don’t you?)
I have also recently discovered a love of foot care items. In particular this super affordable line of foot products from The Foot factory which again I purchased from Jollys Pharmacy.
This line is one that I believe will remain in my collection for quite some time. There is a three step system with the scrub, soak and lotion all in the flavor peppermint. First up is the scrub which is so gentle yet gets the job done leaving your feet feeling smooth as silk, then its the peppermint foot soak which I think is sent from the heavens, not only does it draw out toxins but it leaves your feet feeling super soft and to top it off is the decadent foot lotion which leaves your feet set and ready to go for the rest of the week.
I highly recommend using this trio on a day that you want to treat yourself to a spa day.
As to what I’ve been enjoying eating, lunch usually is a chicken kabab accompanied by a salad. This meal is super inexpensive and is protein packed as well as full of nutritional fiber and energy. I have also been super into green tea which has sooo many beneficial properties such as antioxidants and nutrients which assists in improved brain function, fat loss and a lower risk of cancer.
Staying in the realm of Self-Improvement I have been reading David Allen’s Getting Things Done which is a book which helps you understand the art of using time wisely and being productive. The main lesson I have learnt form this book so far is that there is no time like the present and it is one I highly recommend.
What are you looking forward to most during the final quarter of the year and what are some of the items or otherwise that you have been enjoying? Let me know in the comments below.
